2023 is a milestone year for Casio as it celebrates both the 40th anniversary of the original G-Shock watch, as well as the 30th anniversary of its diving-focused Frogman collection. The Casio G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A is the latest in a string of recent releases to commemorate the Frogman’s anniversary, following in the footsteps of the more traditionally styled GW8230B and the unabashedly vivid GWFA1000APF1A. This current edition, limited to 700 handmade pieces, features the same shade of yellow used for the very first Frogman DW6300 model but eschews the original’s digital display for an all-analog dial and a meticulously modern execution befitting G-Shock’s top-of-the-line MR-G designation.

Aside from its colorway, the specifications of the Casio G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A follow those of the standard production G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000 that debuted earlier this year. The all-titanium case measures just under 50mm-wide with a lug distance of 56mm; this is no small watch, to be sure, but part of the overall width can be attributed to the broad bezel contour at 9 o’clock that gives the Frogman its distinct asymmetrical shape. The case sits high on the wrist with a thickness of 18.6mm but remains relatively light overall thanks to its titanium construction. A bright yellow fluoro-rubber Dura Soft strap comes standard with the watch and can be easily swapped out for a DLC-coated titanium bracelet with diver’s extension. The color motif continues with matching yellow applied hour markers in addition to gold ion-plated buttons, screws, and crown.

At its core, the Casio G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A is a dive watch, and a proper one at that. While it shares the same 200-meter water resistance as all G-Shocks, the Frogman is also ISO certified, allowing for the safe operation of all of its buttons at depth. It’s worth mentioning that the Frogman watches are the only ISO-rated watches in the entire G-Shock catalog, and the only ones expressly designated as dive watches.

Inside the airtight titanium case is Casio’s 5702 module, which features a number of diving-specific modes including dive time measurement, tide graphs, a surface interval display to register times between multiple descents, and a dedicated diving log. This is in addition to the standard G-Shock timekeeping functions of a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, daily alarms, and dual time zone display. Additional features are accessible via Bluetooth through the Casio Watches app, and the Tough Solar movement allows for solar-powered timekeeping. To ensure visibility, the watch includes an LED Super Illuminator light to complement the lumed Neobrite hour markers. The case is topped with an AR-coated sapphire crystal, and the titanium screw-lock case back sports the same diving frog illustration found on the original Frogman, with an added “Frogman 30th / G-Shock 40th” dual anniversary marking.

The Casio G-Shock MR-G Frogman MRGBF1000E1A is a limited edition of 700 pieces, each with its own unique serial number. The watch comes in a special decorative box containing the additional DLC-coated titanium bracelet, as well as a DLC-coated stainless steel bracelet mounting tool.
